A WORLD OF LIVING STONE · BY BLACKBEARD
The Concord of Living Stone
They have watched a million years pass.
Now someone wants to make their lives into a weapon.
Nemoris is a world of sword and sacred magic, deep forests, volcanic archives, divided kingdoms and living stone. The Chelorim have watched its peoples for millions of years: huge, nimble, intelligent beings with four interchangeable padded hands and feet, and sliding armor plates that can extend up to six feet on fully prehensile living stalks. They call themselves neutral. People who live beneath their decisions do not always agree.

ANCIENT DOES NOT MEAN INFALLIBLE
Auraleth of the First Rain is at least 2,340,000 years old; Vaulkor the Deep Root is at least 2,110,000. Revered by many, they remain fallible people with different beliefs about protection. Their aevum is concentrated living mana, inseparable from memory and identity. An unseen conspiracy now persuades these ancient powers that the mortal kingdoms intend to destroy them.
Dragon-like in stature and reputation, they are sovereign, proud and capable of compassion. Their armor is a living arrangement of plates that slides around an agile body. Exactly four limbs end in broad padded, callused hands or feet used interchangeably.
In desperate moments a plate rises up to six feet from the body on a fully prehensile stalk to shelter someone immediately beside them. Chelorim normally speak to one another through the vibration of their large scales, shaping an almost musical language of deep, resonant timpani notes. To outsiders a conversation sounds like a bass-heavy timpani orchestra. Common and other vocal languages remain intelligible, but each spoken word carries this drum-like resonance and a slight reverberant tail. It is a courageous physical act with limits: protecting another may expose the stalk and the body beneath.

FIVE POWERS. MORE THAN FIVE POINTS OF VIEW.
A kingdom of river towns, grain roads and a crown expected to protect people it cannot always hear. Queen Alisane Rook must answer both an immediate threat and the temptation to claim ownership of the truth.
An elven crown shares authority with grove assemblies. Living roots preserve long memory, including old decisions that the forest’s defenders would prefer to remember differently.
Dwarven councils and forge guilds maintain the fittings on which great refuge wards depend. A craftsperson’s honest measurement can expose a lie that diplomatic seals conceal.
A diverse maritime federation of pilots, households and councils. Its fleets can carry a rescue or conceal an extraction chamber; harbor people insist the difference be named.
Volcanic gardens and careful archives shaped by the Veyari. Pen-wardens preserve evidence as a responsibility to living witnesses rather than as a prize belonging to a ruler.
MAKE A MORTAL WHO MATTERS

Living basalt-toned skin, fine mica flecks and mortal lives: the people of Serevane are a distinct ancestry. Their pen-wardens preserve testimony and memory in a land of volcanic gardens and careful archives.
A sacred calling devoted to refuge, bridges and mediation. These guardians stand between the vulnerable and the powers that would claim them.
Swordspeople, wanderers, scholars and healers all have a place in this expedition. The fate of ancient powers may rest with the mortals they have overlooked.
